Sunday with Grandma Goot

A couple weeks ago the family pup passed. Grandma Goot lost her best friend as she would watch the family dog during the day when everyone else was at work. Since then we’ve all been doing our part to make sure the loss of the dog doesn’t mean we see Gram any less.
She’s been over at my house helping supervise the yard clean up, and now comes over to help cook once a week. I thank Jamie Oliver’s 20 Minute Meals app on my iTouch for making the food choice easy. Today we made Farfalle Genovese (pasta, potato and green beans with pesto and parm cheese.
The idea came from two friends of mine; Mike and Jessie. Mike has been going out to dinner with his gram once a week. It’s a good way to appreciate where we come from, and I’m sure Mike, like me, continues to gain a new perspective on his grandparents.
Jessie, she used to make a game out of cooking in a past relationship. From what she mentioned, I’d imagine they’d do something active and whoever won the friendly competition would choose a Jamie Oliver recipe for the other to make them for dinner that night.
Now, I’m not saying I’m gonna be challenging my Gram to a race anytime soon, but it was fun teaching her something new today….how to make pesto….in the smoothie maker. Note to self…get a proper food processor. I had her laughing as I was shaking the basil, olive oil, garlic, parm and toasted pine nuts in the smoothie blender.
