PHOTO: Keith by Jim

Keith Richards Photograph, Los Angeles, 1972

I have heroes. And someday I’d like to be a super hero.  But until then I wanted to share my admiration for two gentlemen that are heroes of mine; Keith Richards and Jim Marshall.

Keith plays guitar in a band from England.  For the kids that aren’t hip to him here’s how to connect the dots….Johnny Deep channeled him for a movie he was in…I heard it had something to do with pirates.

Mr. Marshall is a music photog.  He’s taken iconic images of jazz musicians, rock musicians, and you know that Johnny Cash photo where he is flipping the camera off?  Yeah, Mr. Marshall shot that too.  When I was living in New York City I kept myself occupied in my free time by assisting a music photographer.  One day during work we went and grabbed a cab to a big photo conference at the Javits Center.  Guess who was there on behalf of Leica cameras?  Mr. Jim Marshall!  I bought one of his books…directly from his hands, he signed it.  It sits right above my heads on my shelf.  Come on over and give it a look.

Why is this relevant?  Well my friend, that photo on the top of this post is of Keith and was shot by Jim.  Someday I’d like to have a print of it framed on my wall (not the poster, but the actual print).  So if you are feeling really generous and want to earn a special place in my Goot heart, I’d love to unwrap it on my birthday, March 19th.
